Getting Your NPI is Simple
All healthcare professionals need NPI numbers to let
others know who provided the patient’s care or referral.
Visit the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System
(NPPES) website to complete an application with the
following codes for program directors:
• Provider Code 22 (Respiratory, Rehabilitative &
Restorative Service Providers)
• Taxonomy Code 2255A2300X (Athletic Trainer)
If you have your National Provider Identifier (NPI) number,
please take a moment to update your BOC Central™ profile
with this information. You can enter your NPI number by
logging in to your profile and clicking on “Update Personal
All healthcare professionals are encouraged to obtain
NPI numbers, including ATs, students, preceptors and
program directors. NPI numbers are used for electronic
health records, insurance billing and statistical purposes.
If you have not yet applied for your NPI number, follow the
below link to learn more about how easy it is to obtain an
NPI, as well as step by step instructions.
Please note that your students will enter 2 Taxonomy
Codes to indicate they are a student of athletic training:
1. Taxonomy Code 390200000X (Student in an
Organized Health Care Education/Training
2. Taxonomy Code 2255A2300X (Athletic Trainer)
Upon graduation and receipt of certification (and state
license if available), students will log in to their NPPES
account and remove the 390200000X (Student taxonomy
code) and set the primary taxonomy code as 2255A2300X
