Newly certified Athletic Trainers
have a lot to learn as they make the
transition from student to professional.
One of the most critical pieces of
new information is learning how
to complete and report continuing
education (CE) requirements.
The BOC includes this information
in a “Welcome Series” of emails sent
to newly certified ATs. Still, some
struggled during the last reporting period.
Two of the most frequent questions we received were:
1. How and where do I enter CE?
2. Which college courses are eligible for CE?
Please help us educate candidates on how to enter their
reporting requirements. Step-by-step instructions are
available for reference on the BOC website. For questions
about college courses and their CE eligibility, see the section
on the BOC website titled “Category C: Post Certification
Question: My student entered the wrong date on the
AT101 form (Step 1 of the exam application). What do I
Answer: If the date is off by a few days, this is not an
issue. You can approve the form. If the date is off by a
quarter, semester or year, or if the student entered their
birthday, click “Reject” on Step 1 and enter the reason why
the form is being rejected. The candidate will receive an
email notification that the form has been rejected. Then, he
or she will be directed to correct Step 1 and to resubmit
the form for approval.
Question: When can a student create their candidate
profile in BOC Central™? Should they do this before
they are enrolled in their final semester or quarter prior to
graduation, or after?
Answer: The sooner the better! CAATE encourages
programs to “have students create a BOC ID as soon as
they are accepted into the program.” Candidates can refer
to the BOC website for instructions on how to create a
profile in BOC Central™.
Question: How soon can a student sit for the BOC exam?
Answer: Candidates are eligible to sit for the BOC exam
once they are enrolled and/or registered in their final
semester or quarter prior to graduation.
